Eileen Frances Tilp, 98, formerly of 715 Berkley Place died peacefully Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, 2011 with her family by her side, after a short stay at Stonehill Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at Holy Spirit Parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. John R. Tilp officiating and Rev. Dwayne Thoman concelebrating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
She was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Masonville, IA, the 10th child of Herman and Barbara (Breitbach) May. She married Joseph Francis Tilp Nov. 25, 1939 at Immaculate Conception Church, Masonville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1964.
She graduated from the former St. Joseph Academy, Dubuque in 1930.
Eileen was an excellent cook, baker and a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed playing euchre, gardening, canning and helping people, especially people in need. She volunteered at Project Concern and the Iowa Democratic Party.
She was a member of Sacred Heart parish and their Rosary Society.
Surviving are her children, Joseph (Mary) Tilp, of Dubuque, Sandra (Donald) Koopmann, of Peosta, Rev. John R. Tilp, of Clear Lake, IA, Kathryn Ludovissy, of North Buena Vista, IA, Kenneth J. Tilp, of Grosse Ile, MI, and Kim M. Tilp, of Dubuque;
grandchildren, Susan (Shaun) Cloud and their children Ali, and Kasha, Joseph (Lisa) Tilp and their children, Spencer, Jacob, Aaron, and Ethan, Tania Tilp, Michael Tilp, Nicholas Tilp, Pam (Terry) Hinman and their children, Lydia, Alexis, and Jack, Jolene (Rich) Finley and their children Jessica, Austin, and Kyla; and many nieces and nephews
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild Kathryn Tilp; a son-in-law, Celestine Ludovissy, 8 sisters, Mary (Sylvia) Schweikert, Mildred Anna Ryan McElliott, Lucille McGovern, Mary B. Fondell, Luetta Berendsen, Dorothy A. Budde Berg, Anna Chilton and Eleanor Geske; and two brothers, Clarence J. May, Sr., and Joseph C. May.
